"Psychology isn't my major, hence, leisure," Tajvar said matter-of-factly. He read books on psychology simply because he was interested. It was indeed medical, but he aspired to become a surgeon, not a psychiatrist. Surely it wasn't that hard to understand? (But then again, people rarely shared his sentiments.)
Tajvar caught his sister and lifted her into the air, spinning around for one-and-a-half turns in the name of figure skating. "I intend to finish this one book next week," he said, "I'll be in my room, I'm not going anywhere."

"Worst leisure! What happened to walking the dog or watching movies or going to the spa? What's so fun about figuring out how and why other people think? Isn't getting into everyone's heads all off-putting? If I stop to think about it, I always realize that everyone's kind of a massive dick. Present company excepted,"
she added as an afterthought.
She was a bit too old for it, but when she was in the air, she went wheeee and laughed as her feet skidded back onto the ice. "Show off!" Sora accused, but she giggled. She was too.
"Excellent! I mean, no, not excellent," she hastily amended. "Not going anywhere is soooo not excellent. Do you want to go out? Or do I have to say that I, Pretty Princess Sora, demand that we go out? Because I can do that! Or we could stay in. Bake holiday cookies for the family--and the neighbors. Your neighbors; I don't have any neighbors left during winter break. Everyone's off and gone home."[/blockquote]

"I don't read these books for that. It's handy for awkward silences," Tajvar retorted, but he hardly meant his words. Getting into everyone's heads, as Soraya put it, wasn't his intention. He wanted to know how people thought so he could put himself into their shoes -- literally. He had roles to play, faces to put on. "Or to get rid of pesky salesmen."
He pulled her along to the edge of the rink when she landed on the ice, taking advantage of the fact that she was entertained by the stunt. "If no one asks me out, then yes, we can go out," Tajvar said. The heels of his skates bumped against the wall, and he stopped moving, but kept his hands in his sister's. "Why don't you come stay?
Post by SORA FEREYDUN on Dec 21, 2012 9:01:13 GMT -5
"Just tell those salesmen you're a student, and they'll leave you alone! Everyone knows we don't have a single dime to spare."

Honestly, who else was going to ask Taj for a night out? Or a day out, even. Okay, okay, Sora knew he had friends, plenty of classmates--he was a well-liked guy! And he should be, because anyone that worked that hard at being there for other people ought to be liked a whole lot, in Sora's book.
Sora blinked, caught by surprise by the invitation. She held his hand a little tighter; she wasn't sure if that was out of any emotion--possessiveness, if she had to guess--or just reflex to their movement.
She voiced the first thought that came to mind, a question, and felt stupid as soon as she spoke: "Are you sure?"
Sora shook her head, laughed--nervous, but pleased all the same. "Sorry--sorry, I know you wouldn't ask if you weren't serious. I just--yes. Yes, I would like to stay. I'd love to stay, Taj."

Tajvar smiled, only because he had more than enough to spare. For some reason, money wasn't too much of an issue for him; most of the time, he was able to afford more things than his peers could. Perhaps he was more prudent with what he had, or so he liked to believe -- engrossed in a book, Tajvar often forgot to eat.
His response to Soraya's question was again a smile. Rarely did he ask questions or say things he didn't mean, but doubting people was a natural thought process, so he made no comment and nodded when she agreed and beamed at him. He pulled her into a hug.
Post by SORA FEREYDUN on Dec 21, 2012 9:19:21 GMT -5
She enjoyed the hug. To be fair, Sora enjoyed almost all hugs, but Taj was always a favorite, possibly because they were scarce, but mostly because she wasn't kidding when she said she liked him bestest.
She pulled back barely an inch--she liked the closeness--to ask, "Chocolate chip or sugar? We could decorate sugar cookies. And peppermint chocolate bark too. I should go shopping for ingredients!"

Oh, god, she had to pack! She had so much stuff too, and not enough suitcases or boxes. She'd also need to let housing know that she wouldn't need her room anymore so some poor homeless student could move in in her place, but that was easy compared to packing.
"But you have to help me move stuff. As I said, no one's on campus anymore, and my books are heavy! Actually, I could borrow a wheely thing and just make a few trips." She put a hand to her chin, reconsidering. "Yes. I think I can manage."[/blockquote]

"I'll go with you."
It was the right thing to say and the right thing to do. He'd help his sister out, lend her a hand when she needed it -- or even if she didn't. Packing wasn't easy, and when he did it alone, it wasn't easy. Even if Soraya insisted she was fine (and lifted crates like they were cotton), he wanted to help. He had to; otherwise he felt as if he hadn't played his role well.
"You probably could afford to not move some things -- the apartment isn't big. Enough for all," he paused, and pushed on, "three of us, though." Tajvar's gaze shifted, focusing on a seat in the distance. There was always room for family. "But first -- ingredients?"
He changed the topic, unwilling to dwell on his own worries. He could sort them out later, on his own.

She really didn't need his help. The company would be nice though--there were few activities duller than putting stuff in boxes for hours on end--and Sora knew Taj felt better when he was helping people out. Sometimes, it felt like she was taking advantage of him.
"Oh, please. Your apartment isn't big enough for even one of me. But it's okay! For every headache I give my sweet bros, I will also… I don't know. Provide cookies. Maybe take out the trash."
Sora exaggerated; she wasn't that hard to live with. If anything, she was trouble-free, minus any snide comments she might make about your wardrobe.
"Chocolate! Chocolate, or cocoa and buttermilk, and then chocolate chips, flour, baking soda, butter, and not much more. Cookies are easy. Do you have powdered sugar? We're going to need that if we need to decorate sugar cookies."[/blockquote]

"And keep the coffee table clean," Tajvar added, laughing slightly. He kept things orderly in his own apartment, but the television was hardly used, and as a result, the coffee table was almost always a mess. That was hardly the case for his own room, though: half of it was his collection of books and a few cell specimens he kept for the sake of keeping.
"No, I don't think I -- we do." Vocabulary adjustments had to be made for a house with two-and-a-half people (his brother hardly counted, he wasn't home often). "Just how much cookies are we making? A couple jars? Three? What about mom and father?"
Post by SORA FEREYDUN on Dec 21, 2012 9:55:36 GMT -5
"I'll keep the coffee table cleaner than the bathroom. You will have to get used to having bits of blush and eyeshadow and mascara all over the sink. It's disgusting!"
she said, with a bit of demoniac glee.
She was a mess, but not yet a pig sty. Her books are stacked up on the floor, her papers a mess on her desk. Half the trouble of packing was going to be organizing all of her stuff. She was pretty sure she still had her orientation pamphlet somewhere under all those papers.
"Lots! I'll be new in the neighborhood, so even if you hate your neighbors, I want to make some for them. Just to say hi! And then there's all the cookies we're going to eat--but I can always make more for you two. So, mostly I should worry about mom and dad. Two batches for them? Two batches for the neighbors? That's… less than one hundred cookies. Gonna need a lot of sugar and butter."[/blockquote]

Tajvar raised an eyebrow. He'd heard stories, but he supposed that he could keep the bathroom clean himself. He inhaled lightly, doing some mental calculations concerning the cookies and finally came to a good number. "How about a hundred and fifty? Classmates.
Post by SORA FEREYDUN on Dec 21, 2012 21:30:15 GMT -5
"One hundred forty-four! Has to divide by a dozen--well, I guess it doesn't really have to… it'll all fit in a job or in a box or whatever. But you bake by the dozen, Taj, that's just how it's done,"
Sora insisted, just for the sake of it. She knew in practice, she knew each batch would have two dozen cookies mine however many handfuls of cookie dough she ate.
"Do you have furniture? It's not just me moving in, right? We've got to shuffle in a third guy too--or has he said no? I don't know, he might, he might not. I never know. Do we need to hit IKEA?" The last time she'd gone to IKEA, she'd bought a bookshelf, and then made a fool of herself trying to put it together. That being said, it was kinda a fun experience.[/blockquote]

Tajvar knew better than to argue with his sister. A dozen, a baker's dozen, whatever goes. He thought it didn't matter -- well, now he was proven wrong, but he ultimately had his agreement from Soraya. Concluding the topic with a nod, he then took out his phone and made a couple notes; missing a prior arrangement with family never was a good thing.
He glanced up from the LED screen to what sounded like a partially-eager voice, and the mention of his brother. Tajvar remained silent, but a sigh latched unto the back of his throat. She was right. Furniture; he had enough, but he didn't know if they had collections like he did, or if any of them enjoyed bringing friends over.
For an older brother, he sure didn't know a lot of things.
"He probably wouldn't be in most nights," said Tajvar, giving it some thought. "But we should have a bed, anyway -- it's a three-room apartment, and yes. Maybe. IKEA's fun regardless of whether you're buying."

["He might be in for more nights than me. You'll probably still have plenty of quiet nights for your reading while we're having noisier nights downtown, at least!"

Yeah, she lived in a dorm, which meant there was no chance in hell that'd she'd accumulated any useful household materials of her own. The closest thing to furniture Sora owned was a laundry hamper. She wouldn't be too surprised if Ali didn't even have that, boys being boys.
"I need more than a bed to live, Taj. A desk and a few chairs would be nice. The only thing I have in my dorm's clothes. And make-up. And some more clothes, and then a bunch of textbooks." She smiled, because that meant a shopping trip. (Quite frankly, a shopping trip for furniture would be a big step up from a shopping trip for clothes. She was getting to the point where she didn't quite need any more clothes.) "But that's great! New years shopping at IKEA! And with you around, maybe I'll even be able to put everything together without lowering my IQ."[/blockquote]

Tajvar wasn't sure if he enjoyed the idea of his siblings not being home often. One was bad enough, but even Soraya? The young man remained silent, and nodded, simply because the prospect of having some time alone to read was an attractive one.
"That's good to hear," said Tajvar, giving her a nod. He was worried for the both of them, but at the same time, he didn't want to seem bossy, or god forbid, a mother hawk. "Two nights at home, same goes for Ali as well. Tell him on my behalf." The redhead turned away, but snapped his gaze back almost at once.
He could live with a bed and a bookshelf, but he had no idea that his sister couldn't do the same. "... we have a table, but it's also a dining table. We also have a bookshelf, but ... yeah." He soon realized the folly of following this train of thought. He couldn't make space for her books on his bookshelf at all.
"Really? How difficult can putting a bookshelf together be? Or even a chair, for that matter."
