Luckily for Alex, the moment Miles realizes the counter-throwing wasn't anger induced, he calms down. Or rather, he goes from angry to excited. Because this is what he's been looking for, isn't it? The supernatural. Magic users. People who can bring him into a world with far more interesting professions than cashier or dressing room attendant.
"Wait!" and, dropping a bill where the counter once was, Miles hops up, prepared to follow Alex if he leaves the bar. Which he probably has to. The bartender looks pretty pissed. There's also screaming, and sirens are likely to follow, Miles figures.

Alex doesn't bother looking back. He's walking quickly now, trying to put all his energy into not grabbing anything else. But his psionic abilities aren't quite under control and he finds his hands are grabbing at the bricks and bashing at the pavement and then he finds himself getting stopped with a jerk midway down the street, because he's not quite powerful enough to bend the streetlight entirely and now he has to untangle himself.
What's unfortunate for Alex turns into the perfect chance for Miles to catch up.
If he had any doubts as to Alex's abilities, they'd be gone now. Miles follows Alex out of the bar, though he's careful not too get too close, lest the man decide to toss him as easily as he threw the counter. Finally, when Alex pauses during a confrontation with a streetlight, Miles decides it's time to try to approach. Cautiously. Unlike Don Quixote, he's fairly sure Alex's battles with various inanimate objects aren't whimiscal nor imaginatively chivalrous in nature. He's not sure if the man's lost control of his powers, if he's drunk, if he's anger, if he's just insane.... there are so many options but none are good ones.
"Please wait," because he refuses to carry on a conversation while walking and god help him if he has to try to physically stop Alex. A hand on the shoulder is usually an effective way to slow someone down for a chat, but then, most people don't have the ability or will to throw furniture.

Alex turns, the streetlight bending a bit as his temper flares up. "What?!" He's not sure why he's yelling at Miles. He's probably not angry at Miles, but that humiliation back there, the fact that property damage lawsuits could be filed, the fact that normal people, including one that was actually being nice to him, all just happened to pile up and now Alex is wondering if he needs to just isolate himself somewhere and never leave. Maybe then he wouldn't hurt anyone or destroy anything.
It's not exactly prudent to reveal his own powers to a stranger, particularly one who's seemingly rather unstable, but Miles isn't thinking clearly. He can't think of a good way to demonstrate his powers without freaking Alex out further, though, so he settles for a verbal assertion.
"I can't always control mine, either," a lie, but a white lie, and what's most important is that it reveals that he has something in common with Alex, their unnatural abilities. "They're going to find you if you stay out in the open. Come with me." His apartment's not too far off, they can stay there until things quiet down a little.

Someone else?
Alex has always believed that maybe, just maybe, he was the only person like him in the world. That he was a freak. An outcast. And when he discovered that he wasn't the only one, he felt as if he was the only one that hadn't perfected his abilities, that hadn't learned to use them properly. And so he'd ended up outcasted again, this time by his incompetence. In his moment of distraction, his vector's death-grip on the streetlight loosens and he's able to retract it.
"...You..." He inhales briefly and he clenches his fists. "Yeah, let's go." And thus he follows Miles.
