[cs=2] There are different names, they say, for this sort of faerie. The Greeks called them muses. The Celts, however, gave them a more accurate name and title: the leanan sidhe. There are only a small amount of them, and each with a different power. Aurora's ability is the gift of poetry and word-play. She can use this gift for herself, though will not receive much recognition for it, or she can amplify its magnitude by giving it to a human. The leanan sidhe, though, don't do anything for free: they feed off of the life-energies of artists, so long as the artist willingly gives them permission. And once permission is granted, they can keep feeding until the artist has died from the exposure. In fact, most famous artists that have died young were directly influenced by leanan sidhe, and Aurora has a few under her belt. One thing to note, though, is that Aurora's memory tends to remove events, years, and other people. It's a coping mechanism to deal with immortality: her perceptions of human time and memory aren't quite the same and she can't list off all her accomplishments because they just fade into the woodwork. She doesn't remember humans unless they currently have a contract with her, or otherwise manage to make themselves notable, which is difficult. Aurora's name changes as time flows on, too. Because of this, she comes across as floaty to all but fae, who just see her as normal faerie-perverse and unpredictable. Though she is Unseelie, she has her own agenda and can act benign, as faeries tend to resist definition. One thing that does remain, though, is her tendency to speak in long, poetic, incredibly pretentious phrases. She has a certain eloquence to her speech and will occasionally slip into meter and rhyme without realizing it. She believes she first left the Dreaming in what humans call Europe, inspiring ancient Greek poets and building up the modern art of humans. But over time she shifted overseas, finding more minds to prey upon and more art to fuel. She's constantly getting her street names wrong, though, and she won't be able to tell you quite where she is at any point in time. Human places. They've confused her for thousands of years and they still confuse her. Mortals worry over the silliest things. Rent? Taxes? Laws? She'l never understand any of it. | |
