[atrb=width,500,btable][cs=2] VAPULA the fallen angel of science and knowledge | RANK. E AGE. ageless, appears in her early thirties DOB. see above ETHNICITY. fallen watcher OCCUPATION. doctor-- neurosurgeon RESIDENCE. downtown
| [atrb=width,100] | [cs=2] Goes by Evangeline Lake.
Vapula doesn't consider herself evil or fallen. She's just doing what she's designed to do. She is the angel of knowledge, after all, and this is her calling. But when she prioritizes science over humanity, it doesn't look good in the eyes of other watchers. And when she'd let humans die for research? Definitely not a good option.
Perhaps the best way to describe Vapula is neutral-evil. She doesn't consider herself a bad person and she doesn't do bad things for the sake of doing bad things. What wrong she does, she does for her own benefit and the benefit of her research, which doesn't sit well with the rest of the watchers.
But hey, isn't that what she was meant to do? Not really. Her original purpose was to oversee progress of scientific sleepers. She was supposed to make sure that things didn't get too out of hand. However, she could not resist the siren-song of knowledge. After years of keeping human knowledge contained, she slowly decided that perhaps it wasn't quite worth it. She let loose what she had been guarding and became one of them, pursuing knowledge through science and defecting from her position: to protect humans from what they should not know.
Vapula is a charismatic woman, even charming when she wants to be. It's bedside manner, and she pulls it off well despite her intimidating appearance. Her patients remark that she's often gentle and considerate, and very informative of what she needs to do and how it'll affect them.
Beneath all that is a sense of wonder. Vapula really can't sit with unanswered questions and anything that gets her attention can be studied until she's worn all her sources exhausted. She finds most things utterly fascinating, and doesn't stick with one thing for too long.
But she's not always willing to use her knowledge for good. Some things she wants, she must take, and she's more than willing to use everything she's ever known to her advantage. She's exploited fears, loopholes, human lives, you name it-- Vapula will get what she's after no matter what.
Knowledge is power, power corrupts, and Vapula is the living embodiment of it. | [cs=2]- MOLECULAR ALTERATION. Specifically, the ability to shift particles and change them from one periodic element to another. Incredibly difficult to pull off, but she manages with smaller subjects and areas. At this rank she cannot mess with atoms in living beings.
- SCIENTIFIC PROWESS. She's devoted much of her life to studies of science and medicine, and the connections between magic and science. Currently her field is neurology and she works as a neurosurgeon, but she tends to shift her focus every now and then. Being immortal gives her the benefit of being able to change her career path as many times as she wants. In her spare time (not having to sleep or eat means she has a bit of it), she enjoys researching magical creatures, and many of her current journals revolve around the nuances of the nervous systems in magical beings.
- TOXIN SECRETION AND MANIPULATON. Essentially she can manipulate toxins to remove poison/venom from one's bloodstream, or she can secrete a neurotoxin. Said neurotoxin can only take affect if ingested or injected or otherwise exposed directly to the bloodstream; at this point contact with skin is not enough to cause issue. It is not deadly, but can cause temporary involuntary convulsions in the affected areas. Effects have no lasting damage if only exposed once; multiple exposures, though, could cause permanent nerve damage.
- WEALTH II. Being a doctor with no dependents, Vapula can afford to splurge every once in a while. She lives quite comfortably in her Soho apartment and doesn't worry much about paying the bills. Unfortunately, there is still some college debt to pay...
- LIBRARY II. Medical journals ahoy! She also has a ton of personal research papers about magical creatures and how they work, in terms of nerves and hormones. She mostly only has conclusive data about werebeasts, and those are incomplete at best, but she's hoping to see if there are any patterns in other things that she should watch out for. Half of her intent is to make the medical care of waking creatures more advanced and ensure better treatments. The other half? Personal interest, let's put it at that.
- ARSENAL I. Medical tools can easily become weapons, if used correctly: syringes, a scalpel, a bone saw. You may go "wut" at the syringes, but consider her powers and the fact that injections make her neurotoxin more potent and fast-acting-- and if she can get you to stop moving somehow (like with that bone saw), it'd be easy to see why she keeps them handy. She also has a hunting license and enjoys weekend trips upstate to hunt deer; with it comes a hunting rifle.
