[atrb=width,500,btable][cs=2] MARLOWE WIEDMER riding shotgun to the unfolding | RANK. Rank E AGE. Twenty DOB. April Sixth ETHNICITY. Trinidadian, Dutch OCCUPATION. Mobster, Student (Resident Advisor) RESIDENCE. 135 east 12th st. (loeb hall)
| [atrb=width,100] | [cs=2]- Marlowe’s parents met in Trinidad and Tobago, and eloped to the Big Apple suddenly. Marlowe’s father was a Dutch marine biologist, and his studies had him examining the Caribbean. He currently works as an associate professor at NYU but doesn’t strive for tenure or anything ambitious. His wife is a native Trinidadian dancer who brought her skills to the States and now has her own Caribbean/African dance studio in Queens.
- Marlowe woke up at seven years old. The experience had him communicating with a dead woman in his condominium. She instructed him to anonymously tip that her living husband killed her in a drugged rage. For that favor, she acted as Marlowe’s guide to the dreamy, mystical realm of the dead. This experience caught him at a time of whimsy and wonder. It mellowed him out but also made him a skeptic of damn near everything. For most of his early teens, he assumed that most events had a mysterious impetus.
- At fifteen, he got romantically involved with a recently dead girl named Marcella. Of course, they couldn’t act on anything. She changed his life, but he’s still unsure if it’s for the better. She too was a medium of exceptional power but lived in a poorer neighborhood than he. Her skills had her involved with a well-connected mage named Moloch. She still had to pay off a debt to the magician. He promised to torment her for the rest of eternity, so Marlowe intervened by acting to pay her debt. Moloch had a few other servants he gathered and soon constructed a mafia.
- Marlowe paid off Marcella’s debt as he graduated high school, but cut ties with her during the summer. He longed to have a normal life, and along with his lack of appetite, his lack of friends was concerning his parents. The thing was, Marlowe had a solid amount of friends. They were just dead, demonic, or deific. He vowed to be more sociable in the sleeper world.
- His dream school hadn’t offered him any financial aid at all, but he couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. He made a deal with Moloch to continue his mobster duties in exchange for a paid tuition. The service was longer, lasting until the student was twenty-six years old. He now has six years left under the wizard.
- After two years at New School, he’s studying as a Physics Major and snatched a Resident Advisor position to relieve himself from room and board debt. He met a friend on the subway, and it’s a rapper ghost who won’t leave him be.
- For reference, Marlowe doesn’t really know how to have fun. He won’t flip shiznit if things go off course; in fact, he hardly plans much with so many hours to do things in the day. He’s pretty average as far as emotions go. The boy hates trends, foodies, and hipsters, but has pretty distinctive tastes in everything. He's still a twenty-year-old college student. So his choices of having fun is pretty run-of-the-mill.
- Being a little absentminded concerning his powers caught the attention of Mu. So, he's a proud fraternity brother now, but a nameless one at that.
| [cs=2]- SELF-SUSTENANCE.
An innate magic derived from his mediumship invigorates his physiology. Marlowe’s physical and mental needs are greatly reduced. Three hours of sleep, a solid breakfast, and a bottle of spring water can keep him sated for a full day as well as a trained athlete with normal needs. Eating, sleeping, and drinking at a normal rate would tire him out (a la food coma). It’s his most apparent ability and concerns friends and family like no other.
- ASTRAL VISION.
A form of enhanced vision, his core medium power. Marlowe can see creatures, spirits, and beings hiding in otherworldly, overlapping planes of existence. He can perceive ghosts and demons (in their natural forms) but cannot communicate with them unless they have the ability to grant him that power. It can be switched off by focusing his eyes, but in normal eyesight, he can still witness beings in their sleeper world disguises.
- PSYCHIC CONSTRUCTIONS.
Marlowe can channel his psychic energy to form tools, objects, weapons, and other items. It’s a bit exhaustive when used for weaponry or in excess. However, the student often cooks and cleans with radiant light. As a mobster, he has used his psychic construction to project bullets from his index finger and daggers from his palm.
- LIEGE I – MOLOCH.
As of right now, Marlowe’s tuition is paid by a waker mafia mage that goes by Moloch. Whether he’s the real deal ammonite god is unknown. Most in supernatural NYC believe he’s a human with much influence and a herd of two dozen trained killers. Marlowe’s errands and tasks are either given directly or indirectly from the crime lord himself. Most of them happen to be the assassination banishment of otherworldly beings. Most of the time, Marlowe works to maintain Moloch’s connections with other influential beings. He deals with the petty gruntwork. Moloch doesn’t trust him just yet. The boy made a deal with the devil, man. Wait, actually, Marlowe would rather work for that guy.
- FAMILIAR I – LUPIN THE GHOST.
Upon entering The New School, Marlowe developed a relationship with a former subway rapper named Lupin. The ghost isn’t the most knowledgeable creature, so it’s not like having a library around. However, Lupin is Marlowe’s henchman of sorts, being able to traverse in the astral dimension and communicating with him telepathically. It helps when Marlowe doesn't study for tests, but the student would never abuse his wisecracking familiar. Lupin hasn’t stopped his musical pipe dreams even in death. Marlowe has to suffer his terrible rhymes daily.
- POWER I – SMOKE SECRETION (LIEGE ASSET).
A joke bestowed by Moloch who laughed at Marlowe’s aversion to smoking. Now on will, Marlowe can emit smokescreens from his mouth. It doesn’t do wonders for his lungs but it gets him out of trouble quite a bit. The smoke isn’t harmful, even to the eyes. It’s just to mask movement and location.
- CONNECTIONS I
Eyes open for over a decade now, Marlowe didn't put much effort into it, but he's garnered a set of acquaintances throughout magical NYC. The ones most loyal to him are: his ghostly familiar, a Lupa Omega, and a cocky young mage at the New School that recommended him.
