a born and bred new yorker, zahir is half hero half villain, and all brat.

he's a waker who has decided to devote his life to saving sleepers from supernatural threats after his mother disappeared when he was five years old. he couldn't believe that his mother--his beloved mama--had left him. and then, ten years later, stumbling upon a dying vampire in an alley, he realized the truth. of course she hadn't left him. she would never have left him behind. she was taken.

straight out of high school, zahir started traveling up and down the east coast, slaughtering every vampire he could get his hands on, and handing over every demon he could capture to magi he trusted to bind them. recently, however, he's returned to new york, looking for clues in the supernatural underground about what became of his mother all those years ago. he works as a food & wine blogger for his day job, reviewing restaurants and bars, as well as putting out his own recipes from time to time.

but he's unable to escape the narrative he's written where the story is told only in black and white about the waker/sleeper intersection. he's turned himself into a weapon for the cause, and he seems frighteningly unaware that there's no way he can stay on this path and not lose himself. he just wants everyone to be happy, but he also wants to be right. he hates bullies and braggarts, but his self-confidence in his own abilities is a mountain that would make mt. everest look like an ant mound. he's clever and determined and distant and insecure.

he's a bunch of contradictions and hopeless ideals wrapped up in a meatsack, which means he's human.
