[cs=2] Elizabeth, while studious and intelligent, is not the most socially gifted of persons. She often finds herself tongue-tied in conversation, easily embarrassed, and rather meek in general. Because of this, she has since retreated into books, having a certain love for theology, the occult, and other religious studies, such as mythology. Her apartment room is chock full of these pieces of literature, and she is constantly buying more, even if she can’t necessarily afford it. However, that is not to say that Elizabeth is cruel or loathes society, rather, she simply finds herself not as gifted as some. She still makes an effort to blend into society, for example, by taking a job as a barista to support her book purchasing habit. While she doesn’t talk to customers frequently, she enjoys time there, and doesn’t mind exchanging a few words with her coworkers. Without getting to know her, people might say that, although polite and kind-hearted, she can come across as distant and reserved. Upon further investigation, however, one might find that Elizabeth is a diligent individual just trying to find her place in the world. While only one of Elizabeth’s parents is of English descent, (her father was American) she was born and raised in Manchester, London. She lived there until she was 19, when she moved to New York in order to attend college as an English and liberal arts major. While scholarships helped pay for most of her educational cost, she ended up blowing the rest of her budget on books, as she simply adores them, thus having to settle with renting a rather sketchy, unfurnished apartment in the more ghetto area of Brooklyn so she can afford to eat. The apartment isn’t even above ground, rather, tucked down below, reachable by slipping through the alleyway on the other side of the complex, making a turn, and trying not to trip in the dark while taking a few stairs. Luckily, in order to pay rent money and other costs of living, Elizabeth was able to find a job working as a barista in a downtown coffee shop. This is around the time when Elizabeth (sadly) discovered that New York was not the romantic, leisurely paradise that she had seen in films, but rather, a crowded, bustling city. It is through the love of books and occultism that Elizabeth honed her mind and began to practice magic around the age of 17, keeping her long sessions of meditation and practice a secret from her parents by sneaking down to their basement at night to hone her skills. Though she was terrible at first, after a years worth of practice, and losing probably just as much sleep, Elizabeth was finally able to conjure her first spirit: a demon referring to himself as Stolas. She was reluctant to form a contract with him, but since then, their relationship quickly began to grow, and in the three years that they have known each other, the two get along as well as any pair of close friends, if not better. | |
