SHELTER FROM COLD. WE ARE NEVER ALONE.
TAGGED: Sol Callaway <3 WORDS: 454
There was a slight chill in the air as he walked along; it wasn’t all that prevalent, but the air was slowly beginning to lose the pleasant coolness it’d had, now giving way to winter’s chill. But, that didn’t really matter to James, or many other New Yorkers, it seemed. A walk in the park was something they’d do while they could; in fact, even if it did get too cold every once in a while and that famous New York snow began to fall. Humans were like that, though; no matter the reasons why they shouldn’t, many preferred to go on with their routines, with their normal things, as if there was no change in anything besides the fashion season.
Of course, to live in New York was to subject yourself to extreme weather; there was nothing like the city in summer, when the sun was so hot that James could recall being back in the private high school he’d graduated from only a year ago and it getting so hot that the seniors with free periods would go up to the balcony of the school and take off as much as they dared; boys would take off their shirts, girls would unbuttons their blouses as low they could without being considered loose, all to both escape and embrace the summer heat. There was nothing like New York in spring, when the frost of the winter began to melt, and the flowers would bloom again, nor like New York in the winter either; in short, there wasn’t anything like New York, and sometimes James just couldn’t begin to understand how people could hate it.
Taking in a deep breath as he walked through Central Park, free for the evening (after his parents having headed off to some charity dinner and he, feigning sick, hadn’t gone), the angel’s eyes looked around with a smile as he stuck his hands into his pockets, giving a delighted little sound at the touch of the coat’s soft fabric. He was wearing a black trenchcoat that reached the back of his knees and was quite standard amongst the rather richer folk in New York; but James liked to think his was just a touch nicer than most. It had really ornate buttons, large and painted silver, grey-ish light of the not-too cold winter day making them shine a bit, along with the soft white scarf he had on his neck, a pair of matching (and designer) black jeans on as well, with regular shoes on as well.
And so, his moment of respite over, James continued his little stroll through the park, looking around again and being surprised to see that there were fewer people around than usual.

If there was one thing one should never do in winter was to dress in old rags. The holes and entire lightness of the clothes he had on were letting the cold air nip at his entire body. If it didn't make him even colder he would have discarded the clothes. Of course that would leave him naked, and nudity plus winter was a very bad combo. Everyone knew that much.
Sol was pretty much wearing an old cloth cloak around the black tee and ragged pants with old shoes. Besides him his small lupine familiar pup Fenrir walked alongside him. "Dammnit, if we don't find an alley or something soon, I'ma freeze out here. I knew I should have looked for a lighter or something." For a werewolf one would think that they would have body temperatures as hot as the sun and could literally walk through a blizzard with nothing but their skivvies, but no! That is a stupid thought only used for some cheap romantic novel to lure girls into fawning over some angst teenage boy werewolf. Why would you even read that?!
As he walked he noticed another person heading his way, this one looked pretty loaded judging by his clothes. Sol was a bit surprised really, he never really saw people with lots of dough wander around the park for mere leisure. Still, he was the only person who was around, so Sol decided to see if there was anything he could do with that. Maybe he could get a free meal, he was hungry after all. Hopefully the pity trick would work as he and Fenrir approached the male. "Excuse me, I'm really sorry for asking, but uh...you see, I lost my wallet in the river and all my money is gone, and me and my little friend here were wondering if you could spare us a couple of bucks? I was gonna get a bite to eat since I skipped lunch today."

SHELTER FROM COLD. WE ARE NEVER ALONE.

It was James' policy to at least try and be nice to those who appeared to be less fortunate. "Of course, a lot of people look to be so..." he thought, before quickly dismissing the thought from his mind, giving a little shake of his head as he saw the other male approaching. He took the time it took for his eyes to land on him to survey him as they got closer; the white haired guy did indeed look the part, and the angel's heart gave a soft quiver, mind running through possibilites; maybe he was having trouble at home, maybe he was a runaway; maybe he didn't have a home.
"Excuse me, I'm really sorry for asking, but uh...you see, I lost my wallet in the river and all my money is gone, and me and my little friend here were wondering if you could spare us a couple of bucks? I was gonna get a bite to eat since I skipped lunch today."
James' eyes looked down to the dog, and his heart gave another small quiver, biting his lip. "Uhm....well.." he moved his hands out of his coat pockets, pretending to fumble around for his wallet; "Hold on a sec, okay...?" In reality, he knew right where his wallet was; in the inside pocket of his coat, and inside there was just a credit card connected to his bank account where he put his modeling money, not a scrap of cash to be found. No, the angel wasn't fumbling for his wallet; he was seeing if this guy was genuine. Though his heart was moved, centuries of watching over the humans, guiding their relationships, trying to make their love bloom, and comforting them when their hearts broke; it was and always would be his job. (In fact, just yesterday he'd whispered a bit of advice to one of the store clerks on Fifth Avenue, a sleeper who'd been unable to see him in his angelic form.) One of abilities blessed on him by the Lord was that of empathy, the ability to feel what those he was watching over was feeling, in order to accurately help them. He could still use it in this form as well, along with another ability; but that was for another time. Turning on the ability, he could immediately feel the emotions of everyone in the park. With an effort that never passed on his face, (he was now looking through his back pockets with a nervous laugh), James finally closed in on the other male in front of him. Interestingly, he found it a bit difficult to separate his and the cute little puppy with him; though it made him think for a moment he dismissed it for now. He felt that the other did need help...but there was a tinge of hope, somewhere. Perhaps his story wasn't true...but...he would never forgive himself if he couldn't at least buy the guy lunch.
"Aha! Found it~!" he exclaimed, a bright smile on his face as he pulled the little thing out of his coat. "Unfortunately....all I've got is a credit card." James said, the smile fading for a moment. "But." his eyes flew up to meet the white haired boy's again. "Maybe if you tell me your name I'll buy you some lunch." He continued, giving a both sweet and almost mischeivous smile.

The male searched through his person for any spare change, though he had other plans in store that the werewolf didn't know. Sol was just waiting to see if what the man would give him, at this point anything would be good to be honest, he just needed enough to get through the night. The next day he would make sure that his luck would change, even if he had to do it himself.
Soon the man brought out his wallet, though, he said that all he carried his credit card on him. So much for getting spare change. Guess it was garbage stew tonight. Then, his ears as well as eyes perked up at the man's next words. Was he seriously going to buy them something to eat? Now that was new, when did you ever see a rich person take time to help the needy?
"Wow, really? You don't...I mean... Well if you want to then." He was pretty much lost for words to be honest. He never expected this sort of event to take place at all in his life. "Oh uh, sorry but I guess I should know the name of the guy who's helping me out huh? Name's Sol, just so you know, and yours is...?"

SHELTER FROM COLD. WE ARE NEVER ALONE.

With a smirk, James began to walk towards one of the park's many exits, turning his head after having nodded at getting the other boy's name. "Sol, huh? Are you fiery, like the sun?" the angel asked, smiling softly as he walked, making sure to tug on the white-haired boy's sleeve so he'd come along. He realized just how flirty that probably sounded, but all that fact did was make his smile grow just a bit more. "Mine's James." he added on, red-wine coloured hair shifting about a bit as they walked along, James putting his hands in his jacket pockets, trying to think of places to take him. Along the road, there walked a fair amount of people, but that wasn't anything unusual; James walked these parks a lot, more than one might think someone like him to do. But, he found it calming...like he was one with the city. And did he love the city; it seemed so...so never-ending, so glorious in every spectacle it gave, from the opulence of the Upper East Side, where he lived, to the bottom of society's barrels.
James looked over at Sol again and this time took the chance to look at him a bit more than he had before. He liked what he saw there; a masculine face, framed by snow white hair, and his eyes....his eyes were...they were...tantalizing. As red as a ruby made of blood, but as soft looking as any warm winter coat. As he realized this, his own eyes widened; their brown depths moving away from Sol's once he remembered that 'Oh yeah, this is creepy."
"Fancy anything in particular, Sol~?"

As Sol followed the guy through the park, a question from him made Sol skip a step. Something about the wolf boy being fiery as the sun? "Uh...what?" He wanted to ask him what he was on about, but he figured that he should just follow him. It was probably nothing anyway, though...it did sound like a sort of pick-up line. Guess it was a line used by fancy rich guys like him. They always did have a way of making stuff that normal people say sound weird.
As he and Fenrir followed him out of the park they looked around them. There sure were a lot of people out at this time of day, many seemed to take a glance at the threesome as they walked. "Hide away for now Fenrir, I don't want people looking at us weirdly." Sol said as he snapped his fingers and his pup disappeared in a breeze of smoke.
As they continued walking Sol looked up to the guy only to see him turn his head away from him. Was he looking at him or something? He suddenly gave him his name, James, and asked if Sol was hungry for anything in particular. "Uh...meat. and lots of it." He said as his stomach rumbled with hunger.

SHELTER FROM COLD. WE ARE NEVER ALONE.

"Sol. It's the Spanish word for sun." James replied back, not missing the slipping away of the dog; so that was the weird aura he'd felt. Not that he was very good a sensing auras or anything; that wasn't exactly his thing. Rather, he had the ability of empathy; but now wasn't the time for that. "Meat, huh?" he repeated, thinking of a few good places off the bat, but really thinking of something else---what was this guy? He wasn't another angel, that much he could tell, and he wasn't a demon either. But other than that, he couldn't tell.
"I know exactly where we can go." James said, turning and facing Sol with a friendly grin. "Hope you don't mind walking~" he continued, heading in the direction of a steakhouse he remembered only because of the words steakhouse emblazened upon it. Of course it had a name, but the gold and old western style lettering was what stuck in his mind the most. It'd take a little bit for them to get there, but he was sure Sol wouldn't mind.
"So, I guess you're not from around here, huh? No offense." he asked, genuinely curious, looking at Sol again and finding that his eyes became fixed on the strange tattoos this time. The way they curved, framing those eyes again...as if they'd carved out his cheekbones and the very structure of the white-haired albino boy's face had formed around the tattoos instead of the other way around.
"I've never seen...anything like him.." James thought, though he was speaking of his physical looks. Most people considered James beautiful, even in this human form, and as angel...well, all angels were attractive. Snapping out of his reverie when he almost ran right into something, James hoped he could pass off what'd probably looked like staring as listening to Sol's responses. A small blush forming on his face, he rubbed the back of his head. "Hehe~ Need to watch where I'm going, apparently."

Sol took note about the meaning to his name, he never really knew it was a word for the sun in a different language. To be honest he never really questioned about it, why would he anyway? Its not like names were all that important you know. In any case he managed to catch James say that he knew a place, but it included more walking to get there. Well, walking wasn't hard, so no problem there really.
As the two set off, James asked him a rather...odd question about his origins. Well who could blame him, Sol himself didn't really look like your run of the mill ordinary teenager. "Well...I was born here, but...i used to move around a lot, went to different cities while I was young." He wasn't sure if he should share his life story with the guy. Not many wanted to talk about the hardships losing parents can give a person.
It didn't take long for them to reach a steakhouse, which made sol look at the building in awe. He never thought he'd be eating at such a fancy place in his life. As he admired the place he noticed James was about to bump into a wall, "whoa watch out." the other boy soon regained his composure and blushed at his almost mishap. "you gotta be more careful, so this is the place huh? Seems kinda high class, you eat here often?"
