[atrb=width,500,btable][cs=2] VARNOCK ACERBI The Walking Library Of Power | RANK. B AGE. 26 DOB. 11/06 ETHNICITY. Caucasian OCCUPATION. Handler of the Agency, runs a small antique shop in Mid-Town East RESIDENCE. Upper floor of his antique shop
| [atrb=width,100] | [cs=2] Varnock Acerbi was born into a family of Wakers that had been practicing magic for several generations and embraced it from a young age. Well he would like to say that at least. For most of his young life Varnock would spend more time reading rather than actually practicing and attempting to become proficient with any form of magic. This seemed strange and counterproductive to his family, but it only served to help him as it condition his mind for what he eventually learned to be his specialty. At the age of fifteen he finally found his calling in magic as he sent some homework he wished to avoid into a book he was reading. At first this simply confused him until he began to practice more and more. Eventually he worked up the courage to attempt the same process with his own mind and consciousness. It ended in quite a success and sent him up a few ranks within the minor caste system of strength within his extended family. When he reached the age of eighteen he attempted to summon a familiar as most of his family does to assist them. His came out a bit weaker than was the norm, but he kept with her and she has flourished since then. Since then he has continued to read and gain knowledge and add to his mental and physical library. He was even given an antique shop in Midtown Manhattan as a gift from his family to keep him going and make it easier to acquire interesting items. He has since made it into a bit of a market for other Wakers to purchase the many magical items they may need under the guise of a simple antique merchant. He remains on slightly wobbly terms with his family. The family has always spent the most of their time and knowledge on studying warding and the abilities that go with it, with a large side of them focused on summoning, and a much smaller group focused in destruction magic and the hunting of Demons and Vampires. Varnock only got his casual knowledge of warding magic and his familiar from his attempts at learning what his family taught though with most of his attempts at destruction leaving him blown into a wall. They have a large home in Italy that is considered the ancestral home, but Varnock hasn't remained in contact with much of his family having been born in America. | [cs=2]- Literary Manipulation. He can absorb information from books and store objects within them to later withdraw them for use. Can strengthen books to help keep them from falling apart with an item within them. Cannot trap sentient living objects or items of very high power within his books at this level, or trap those weaker than him. Can enter books himself and take willing sentient beings in with him or those mentally weaker than himself. Can enter a book to exit another that is nearby and uses this for short range teleportation by preemptively placing notebooks in areas that are involved in a job. Cannot withdraw characters from the book itself at this level, BUT items maybe be removed for a short time with average effects as to those in the book. Size and quality of a book determines how much can be placed within it. Limited by what can be carried because of this. Can store precast spells in books or slips of paper to be used as a fast acting catalyst for the spell. If stored on slips of paper runes are needed to maintain the energy. If used with a book the page will have to be periodically refreshed for further uses. With the increase in his powers Varnock has gained the ability to make his books float around him to keep his hands free. Another breakthrough in his power has gained him the ability to temporarily take on the personality and skills of a character from a book with great accuracy, if for a limited time. He has taken to carrying Shakespeare for the characters cunning and knowledge of swordsmanship. With the addition of Assault magic to his repertoire he has fast acting Assault spells stored in his books. By combining his ability in Scrying with a book he can create small maps of an area in a relatively short time. If the area is warded correctly they will update periodically and form more quickly.
- Magic of Warding. Can ward areas to protect against high rank scrying and curses. Can create quick shield wards to stop mid rank Assault and Scrying made against his person. Can create wards that causes a small alarm to sound to the creator of the wards when someone not designated as safe crosses it. At this level he has made more advances into protection and can negate the damage of most spells, or weaken them if they are highly powerful. He has a softer alarm ward to alert him when potential customers enter his shop. With the addition of Assault magic to his repertoire he has gained the ability to ward an area with an automatic defense casting using precast spells in his paper. These Defense Wards act by activating the spell sealed in the paper in the direction of the intruder. Can be highly dangerous. With the addition of Scrying Magic wards can be placed around an area to make Scrying into it more effective. His knowledge of Scrying has made his defenses against them more powerful. With the addition of Glamour Magic to his growing skill set he has begun to store premade illusions into warded paper to hide large areas from view or quickly cast a cover or disguise on himself.
- Magic of Scrying. Can view his own memories with the assistance of Mindscape Transportation to review scenes in which he may have missed something important. Can map out a building by remaining in contact with it for the duration depending on size. Can be made more efficient when wards are placed in the cardinal corners or directions of the area that is the target of the Scrying magic. Can make general predictions of the future to determine if harm will come to him that day. Has little trouble finding objects, but still struggles slightly with people at this level. With his knowledge of Glamour it has become harder to prevent his sight with it.
- Magic of Glamour. Via his time training with Mildred Varnock has begun to grasp the magics focused around Illusion. He can easily cloak himself or an area around him with the help of Warding, and disguises comes naturally to him if he has a focus to base them on. Books and the pictures within them often make for a great catalyst. He can inflict various forms of temporary mental problems by tricking someones mind by combining this with Mindscape Transportation. One of his favorite Illusions is warding something to cause the eye to slide past the subject in question and simply forget it was seen.
- Magic of Assault. Varnock has taken back up the practice of the Assault Magic his family can control to increase his likelihood of survival in a combat situation. At the moment his Assault spells rest in the territory of Ice and Electricity, but his other abilities and creativity make this dangerous all the same. He can store vials of water into paper slips to create what amounts to Ice Mines. He can shoot icicles when water is available. He can pull water from the air, but it is taxing and cannot be done more than ten times in a row before it will render him too weak to fight. He carries small bottles of water with him now for this reason. He can shoot various missiles made of ice and can create a thick, lasting mist. His electricity based powers rely on his own motion storing it for use which renders him incapable of using it in rapid succession, however it makes up for this in sheer power. He has been able to trap the electricity into wards and increase the amounts of energy he can pack into one drastically.
- Mindscape Transportation. Can store objects within his subconscious to be later removed and used. Can store most any item at this level and can trap sentient living things inside if they are mentally weaker than he. He has lost the weight limit, but still could not store something like a car or plane for instance without some difficulty. Mainly used to carry his books and reagents for fast casting. He can bring willing sentient beings into his mind at this level, and can enter it himself. At this level this power is of great use to Varnock. This power gives Varnock a passive defense to mental tampering of all sorts that is not to be laughed at, but is much weaker than when he actively defends his mind.
- Library II. He has spent many a day haggling over books in his antique shop in an attempt to amass what he currently has. He uses much of it to store objects to use at a later date, and stores those books within the library of his mind.
- Familiar IV. A black tabby he summoned years ago. Since then she has grown in strength and intellect. Varnock calls her Ellen. She has a tendency to sleep on whatever he happens to be working on and otherwise
lazes about watches over the shop and keeps an eye on things. She often chats up Wakers that are common customers and sends Varnock telepathic messages on who enters the shop. As Varnock gets stronger her powers have increased as well. She has gained an Eidetic Memory from her increased abilities and an enhanced sense of vision that has allowed her to see spirits. Varnock makes use of this by having her nearby during meetings with people who want to hire him in case things go wrong and he needs to find someone quickly. It has made her gaze even more piercing. Very recently she has managed to focus her magical energies and growing intellect into a form of telekinesis that allows her to lift, throw, or move objects of up to one hundred pounds. She often uses it to trip locks and open doors to help her get around.
- Arsenal I.He has a small collection of weaponry stored within his books thanks to his many trades in his antique shop

I sort of rambled on with the background, but it should more or less work all things considered.
