UPPER WEST SIDE sites and landmarks |
The Upper West Side is sandwiched between Central Park and the Hudson River. Known for its gorgeous old architecture, the neighborhood has become steadily more gentrified by an influx of your all-American upper middle class families with 2.5 kids and a yorkie in recent years, though it still carries connotations of being a place where more artistic types live. Hobgoblin - A cozy upscale bar on W 70th Street, this place is owned and operated by an elderly werewolf who caters exclusively to the magical sort on an upper level. Sleepers who wander in are seated at the unremarkable floor level and given absent-minded service. A good place to gossip and see people. Any attempts to start a fight are looked down upon. Gyles & Froge's Emporium of Splendor - Despite the name, neither a Gyles nor a Froge are involved in this traveling vendor's operation. A supplies cart that travels about the Upper West Side throughout the day, the rather toothy blonde girl who runs the cart sells harmless trinkets and glittering pendants to tourists and more genuine items to those interested. Rumor has it that those who attempt to follow her after nightfall are never seen again. Central Park West - This avenue of elegant apartment buildings that runs parallel to Central Park is one of the most coveted and expensive residential locations in Manhattan. It is also one of the more haunted locations in the borough, surprisingly. Numerous ghosts abound here, from the bewildered Henry Bliss, who lectures on the dangers of modern automobiles, to more unsavory types.
