Boredom is a horrible thing... especially when you're as old as Hali.
The more you see, the more everything seems the same. Whether it be 2012 or 1912, humans -- and by humans, Hali includes all creatures with insignificant lifespans -- don't really change. Yes, their technology and their culture changes, but the humans themselves -- their spirits -- don't. There's the good, the bad, the morally grey, the innocent, the corrupted... they're all so different, but when mixed together they always create a volatile, enigmatic mess. A mess of human misconceptions. But in the end they were all the same. They all contributed to that explosive concoction. Their wars. Their criminals. Their sins.
So when Hali heard about something that was entirely unique, she was doubtful. A creature in the sewers, with no connections to the surface world... how could that be? How could he have missed that?
"The thing was the size of a human!" "Yeah! Yeah! But it was a total freak! Did you see it's skin? It was fucking purple!" "And it glowed like a glow stick-" "And the demon horns-" "It looked like a fish!" "It looked like a monster."
Huh... Maybe there was something different.
Hali wouldn't deny the hunger of his curiosity. What was the worst that could happen? Certainly nothing that hadn't happened to her before.
The clacking of his shoes on the stone floor echoed through the tunnels as the bobbing beam of a flashlight swept across the damp walls. Hali hummed quietly to herself as she searched, walking from tunnel to tunnel in the darkness beneath the city that never sleeps, checking every "monster-sighting" spot that she had been able to gather.
Bubbles was reading a book, when she heard footsteps. She quickly used her necklace to briefly turn her invisible as she flew up to the ceiling. When she saw someone wandering the sewers, moving a flashlight. Looking for her? She should probably hurry and leave, but she couldn't help it, even after her necklace wore off, and she was visible again. She hid in the shadows and followed... them. Bubbles couldn't tell if it was male or female, which made her more curious.
Bubbles followed close behind, but up by the ceiling, and always just out of eyesight. She'd gotten good at this throughout the few years, so it was simple to her. Until a rock fell from the ceiling and hit her head. The pain struck first, and then Bubbles fell from the ceiling, right behind the person she had been following. The rock hurt, and she began sniffling. It had hurt, she looked over at the rock, it was bigger then she thought it was.
Then she looked back at the person, gasped and then started flying away, hoping to not get in trouble.
