Bubbles peeked out from the heavy man hole lid, her bright green eyes just barely peering through. Looking for any movement, she was careful, very careful. as she slipped up the lid and slid out to the surface. She placed the manhole cover back quietly, and then flew in the air, and then just began to wander, no one seemed to be around. Every now and then two people would come stumbling by. Sometimes they'd be holding each other's hands and Bubbles couldn't help but clasp her own hands together. She hadn't really been touched since she was younger, which was a long long time ago. She looked down in slight envy, before flying off to look more at the big city lights. Something Bubbles always loved was how the lights would shine, they where beautiful. She loved the light, and she didn't get to see it much down in her home. Darkness scared Bubbles, and it made her appreciate the fact that she can glow, it made everything seem a little brighter.
The bad thing about being able to glow was the fact she couldn't turn it off, and she was easier to see. So, just hiding in dark places wasn't enough to hide. NO ONE could be around, there where several times where she had to use her necklace so they couldn't see her. But otherwise, Bubbles was doing great about not being caught. This made her start to get more cocky and comfortable about being on the surface, so she didn't notice it when someone was by and she stuck her head outside, and they spotted her, luckily she moved back enough for her to look just like a flicker of light, but she began flying away as fast as possible, back into the dark alleyway.
In the middle of the alleyway, was a tall rusted fence, and Bubbles flew over it, but her long blue hair didn't. It snatched on tightly and yanked Bubbles back. The first thought to come across Bubbles head was that she was caught, that the humans had got her just like she was always told would happen to her if she ever left her home. She began flailing a bit, before hearing the fence shake, well that was better, but not good. She looked up and saw her hair tangled badly in the fence, she tried yanking away, but it had hurt to bad, she sat there, unsure what to do. So, she ended up crying. She was stuck here, with no one to help. The humans where going to find her and kill her now. And there was nothing she could do. She cried softly, if she stayed quite that would delay it more, she could stay alive longer. She didn't want to die, she didn't ask to be born this way. So why should she be hated just for being strange? Was she really that terrible?

The pizza shop couldn’t even afford a scooter like in the movies. Ali had to resort to his brother’s old bicycle that hadn’t seen much use since junior high. Traffic in the UWS was scarce tonight which made Ali’s trip bearable. In his ear, Scarlet Blaise’s voice soothed him into a dangerous lapse of thought. His phone’s mp3 function had her album on a loop. His body kept pedaling but his mind was absent. Ali’s eyes scanned the starless night sky, and he smiled at the sight of a commercial jet flying a little too close for comfort. He dreamt that, someday, he was to fly first class nonstop, touring the world as a rock and roll maestro. He returned to reality by gripping his handle-brakes hard. A brainless driver zoomed through a stop sign intersection, nearing running into the Fereydun teen. He sighed and resumed pedaling towards his pizza place for another late night delivery.
His eyes couldn’t help wandering to the night skies. He now expected to see a news helicopter getting its nightly photos but instead saw something a bit peculiar. A mysterious glow took up his right eye periphery and then faded in an instant. He turned, whilst braking, and caught a full view of the light. It was a floating, moving figure in the night. As it noticed him, it made a quick dash in the opposite direction. Ali faced his bicycle towards the figure and then pedaled like crazy.
Digiesi, his boss, wouldn’t know if he was a little bit late. Ali trailed the figure into a shady alleyway and arrived at said alley a few moments after. He leapt off, started walking the bike, and took off his headphones to take in the sight. His heart beat was ridiculous, almost bursting out of his chest. It wasn’t due to the bike ride; the boy was somewhat fit. The cause was right in front of him. Ali gazed, with a lack of understanding, at a beautiful, magical creature. This being’s stunning locks were caught on a fence that divided them. Whatever it was, it let loose a girlish cry. Ali was mesmerized to say the least. What the heck was going on? His integrity forced him to act. Crying was basically the key to his heart. A teardrop could make him do crazy things.
“Shh, don’t move.” The boy dropped his bike and raised a finger over his lips. Hopefully she’d take the cue. She’d won the lottery on people to find her like this. Many magical folk would capture her, and if a sleeper did, then she’d be the ‘cause for an agency headache. He moved closer to inspect the problem. It wasn’t that bad but anxiety can make anything unreasonable. At once, Ali saw her face, her glowing eyes, and the feelers on her forehead. Some kind of mermaid? What are you? He wanted to help but was unsure if he had permission. The teen raised his gloved hand to the section of fence that her hair was caught in. He wondered how silly he looked in his pizza-boy getup. Now was not the time to be self-conscious, though.
“Can I, uh, help you with that?” Ali spoke softly, due to exhaustion more than anything else. This was no longer a normal graveyard shift.
Bubbles blinked in surprise as she heard the voice of the human that has spotted her, at first she jumped and tried to pull away, but instead was pulled back by the strong fence. Fear rose in her heart, but she realized that he was asking her to be quiet. She didn't think it would be good to anger her attacker so she puffed out her cheeks to show that she was going to be quite. She realized then that the boy wasn't going to hurt her, he was trying to help her. She blinked in surprise. This isn't what they told her would happen. Bubbles was confused, but she wasn't going to complain. Help was help, as he asked her if he could touch her she nodded quickly, pulling her hair more. Maybe she should cut it like some humans did. But then the world would be so much darker to her, and she didn't think she could handle that.
She took a moment to look at the boy, it was her first time being so close to a human. She blinked her green eyes staring at him intently. She wondered why he was being so nice to her. Her whole life she had been told humans where evil. She wondered what made him different. Could she speak to him? Was that aloud? Did he want her to bolt out as soon as she could? If she did speak to him, what in the world could she say? She wanted to say something.. but what... she looked at him, and simply said one simple sentence. "Why.. aren't you.. hurting me?" she asked, she was so curious, hoping that he wouldn't smack her, or hurt her. As most of the other's she had talked to did to her before.
She continued to stare at him, and as her hair was pulled lose she floated over to him, and put her face up to his. She looked for something in him that was evil, to show her that he was bad. But.. there was nothing. She brought her pink glowing hand up, to his face, and simply tapped him on his nose, before circling around him quickly and stopping in front of his face. "You don't seem evil." she stated, pulling away from him a bit and floating a little above him. "Does that mean you're my friend?"
(I kind of just assumed that he got her hair out eventually XD I hope that's okay)

Partly, Ali worried if his pay was to be docked for lateness, but that was only a tiny, negligent part. On a larger scale, his mind was blank as to what he stumbled upon. The boy exhaled a soft chuckle upon seeing her cheeks expand. He was convinced that she was absolutely terrified of him and her current circumstances. He moved close and untangled her hair from the fence’s clutch. Her hair reminded him of his sister’s, being all mystically radiant and whatnot. Of course, Sora didn’t walk down the street with bright blue locks but ignore that. Ali was grasping at straws for thoughts and words. He wasn’t sure if he was up to speak again because the tension was a little awk. The teen figured that finding her here was nothing short of a mistake but really wished that wasn’t the case. To anyone else, it might’ve been, but maybe lady luck had given him a crazy episode in jest. Just looking at this bizarre girl eased his fretfulness. He doubted that the vice-versa was in effect. She must’ve been petrified.
Maybe I should write a song about this. The thought made him smile with vigor. Quickly, that smile was erased. Her words, her voice, all of it rang through his being. It was such a magical tone, something he expected from the most proper fae. What she said was a little concerning, but he thought to follow through with his chivalry. Before he could do that, however, she actually FLOATED over the fence and closed in on him. He felt his mouth getting dry and gulped to relieve the nerves. The scene felt a little Disney with how she acted, touching his nose and circling him. To be honest, the only thought that ran through his mind is if his customer gave him acid or something. Not remembering that far back kind of strengthened that theory. All in all, Ali was finally at ease with this scene and savored every bit of it. Miss mermaid was absolute eyecandy, which made savoring a bit easy.
“I wouldn’t hurt someone who’s hurt. And, I don’t think I’m evil. I try really hard not to be.” He grinned at her veering upwards. He prayed to Ahura Mazda that she wasn’t a siren or an innocent succubus. The magic world had different variations of all sorts of creatures. He really liked this one and hoped his impulsive feelings weren’t for naught.
“Sure thing, friend. You know, friends know each other’s names. I'm Ali.” He raised a hand to hold hers, hoping that she’d return the gesture.
Bubbles stared at the boy for a moment, did one have to try to be good? If so could he attack her any minuet? She flinched away a bit as he said that, but relaxed when he informed her that he, was in fact, a friend. She blinked at him Ali? That's what she was to call him? she tilted her head, what was her name? One of the people used to call her the name of the things that left her mouth sometimes, she blew a bubble and let it float there for a moment trying to remember. "Bubbles?" she nodded, it sounded right. "I guess you should call me Bubbles." she stated, then stared at his hand for a moment. What was that for? She took it, and looked for something inside of it, trying to figure out what he wanted to give her. Did he want her to take his hand? She blinked and grasped his hand with both of hers, and stared at him for a moment.
"What is it that you want me to do with your hand?" she asked, keeping a tight lock on it with both of her hands. One thing she noticed was that the boy was very very warm. She liked the feeling of warmth. She was always so cold, and all she had was one little blanket to ever help her be warm. It was awfully small by now, with several little rips and holes in it. She wanted another, but she couldn't go and buy one. She looked at him, wondering if he'd be willing to help her. She turned and looked behind her, hearing people coming and she curled up behind a trashcan, knowing that she had to go soon. She looked at the boy, not wanting to stop talking to him.
She looked around, before grabbing the boy's hand again, and started to try and drag him back into the manhole with her.

Delighting in the moment, Ali wished to not be analytical and note all her reactions. The teen assumed that part of her fantasy was that she was mysterious. His mind wandered to his duties. Pizzas weren’t going to deliver themselves. Something within him shut out that nagging thought, which was curious since he was often prompt with his job. He prided himself on bringing in a weekly check, while his sibs were out doing classwork on metro trains. Nope, obligations didn’t really matter right now. As her namesake popped, Ali felt as if he was jolted back into reality. He grinned at how dotty she was but worried about her wellbeing. All it took was a drunk couple, stumbling into this alley (doing unforgivable things!), to expose centuries of magical anonymity. As an agency agent, he often joked at how fragile this whole sleeper/waker debacle was. He couldn’t rush into action, because, well, that’d just upset her like before. So, Ali played along and relished their little moment.
“Bubbles, huh?” What a cheerful name. Just like the blond haired girl in that 90s cartoon. “Hand-shake, it’s like a greeti-” The clipped walking sound of pedestrians. Bubbles bolted behind the trashcan, knowing fully of her differences. Sleepers didn’t understand; this was something he knew well. She grabbed ahold of his hand once more to lead him away from the scene. Whisked away, he scooped his bike up with his opposite hand and matched her pace. It all happened so quickly that Ali needed an instant to salvage a working train of thought. Where exactly was she taking him?
“Uhm, Bubbles. What’s up? Where are we headed?” He looked up at the floating figure, who looked both anxious and thoughtful.
Bubbles, looked behind her and smiled. "I'm going home so I don't get caught." she said with a firm nod, opening up the manhole, and floating down to the bottom. She waited a moment for him to follow her, standing in the glow of her own light as it got darker and darker the further they got in. Bubbles didn't say anything the whole time, just leading him, feeling better knowing humans wouldn't come down here. She wanted to talk to this boy before he left her life. Was that really that selfish of her? She couldn't let such luck go to waste, she could learn so much from this human. All her questions could be answered, she felt her heart beat faster as they reached her little room in the back of the sewers. She moved over a few old, decaying boxes and opened the door, urging him inside, before placing the boxes back and flying inside.
Inside her little room was a small blanket and pillow in the corner, a bookshelf filled with books on humans, and romance. Also with the books was a dark brown teddy bear, it was worn out and missing it's nose and one eye, but there it sat. In another corner were boxes, Bubbles set down on the ground by those and picked out a candle, before floating back up and placing it by her "bed" and lit it, sitting down by it. Her hair flowing all around her, and then she pat the pillow. "Sit here." she said looking at him. Her green eyes staring at him with hope. "Ali, I would like to ask you some questions about humans if that is alright."
You could hear the excitement in her voice, she hadn't been able to talk to a human.. well, ever in her life and that's all she's ever wanted. More then everything. So after speaking with Ali, Bubbles would have some questions answered, and she wouldn't have to be curious anymore! and if she was really really lucky, he would be her friend much longer, and he could teach her how to be human, and it could be like in her story books! Especially her favorite, the little mermaid. She giggled a little just at the thought.

After holding onto his suspicion, Ali finally released it during the dash to Bubbles’ home. The transition was a bit difficult actually. The boy’s impulses had to battle two imposing consciences: one, he really needed to return to Digiesi’s to finish his shift; two, something within him truly believed Bubbles was in fact a siren of some sort. Considering she was pulling him underground, that wasn’t so far gone. In the end, he dropped his bicycle on the way out of the alleyway and ran with her towards the manhole. Being the stealth adept that he was, Ali was light on his feet while she floated. They ditched the scene like nobody’s business.
She had it so easy, being able to simply float to her living space. Instead, the magi had to climb down into the city’s darkest, murkiest place (if you discount a few spots in the Bronx). After moving through the claustrophobic tunnel, he declined onto a pasty surface. The gross floors of the underground were also ills Bubbles didn’t have to endure. The path she led was hardly scenic. Her glow illuminated much of the way, so it was hard to lose her. As an instinct, the magi kept a hand on his apothecary pouch. It wasn’t simply a precaution towards her but to any monster that lurked beneath the city streets. He soon found himself entering her humble abode, through a door covered by timeworn boxes.
“Whoa, chez Bubbles.” He grinned while giving the whole place a look-sy. The only shocking element to the room was the bookcase of stories. Either they were all stolen or she knew other folks who dwelled above the surface. It was in this moment that he scrutinized her fully. The light in the place was further illuminated by a candle she picked out. The way she glowed and how dazzling hair moved, it again made the scene dreamlike and surreal. He took a seat on the pillow she recommended and wanted nothing else but to stare at her glowing green orbs. What was he to gain in this place? Why as he here?
“What?” That wasn’t what he expected but it didn’t scare him off. Ali figured that she wasn’t even born a human, but her curiosity was a bit offbeat as well. Were her motives this innocent? It made him feel stupid for thinking that she was any sort of threat. The boy scratched the back of his head and coughed a laugh. “That’s totally fine. If you tell me a little about your kind, too.”
Bubbles felt the cold ground under her, and she couldn't help but kept shifting positions, unable to stay comfortable, until she just decided to hover a little in the air, so she wouldn't have to feel the stinging cold in her body. Tell him about her kind too? She didn't know much about what she was, but she could try. "I.. I can try." She decided to go ahead and talk about herself first, just to get it out of the way and she figured it wouldn't take as long, as she didn't know anything about herself. "I... I'm a were Neon Goby.. which is a fish." she said with a nod looking at her hands. "Though I can't transform... I'm stuck in this ugly monster form." she said with a sigh and looked at her feet, hating everything about her. She just didn't like it, and hated thinking about it. "I think I'm the only one like me, I'm at least very rare." she stated then shrugged. "That's all I know"
She smiled and looked up at him, her hair floating around her and smiled big, not giving him much time to respond to what she had just told him. "How do you produce your own heat?" She asked then shook her head. "No No No, that's not what I want to start with. What about walking, can you teach me how to do that? Or wait.. what's hair made of? No, what about that think you where riding? What are those called? Or the REALLY big ones with doors and stuff? How do those move? Do you have pedals like on your thing? Oh! What's a school and why are there so many children there? Is it fun? Do you play games? Or.. " Each word came out faster then the next, and Bubbles didn't know where to end or stop she wanted to know everything she could right then and there before, stopping and shaking her head one final time before going to her book shelf and picking up a loose light bulb and showed it to him.
"What is light and how come mine wont work?" she asked, it was a simple question, but it was defiantly the one she wanted to know the most. How her most beautiful and magnificent things in the world worked.

In this little coven, he kept his hands to himself for hygienic reasons. Cozy or not, this place was still underground, and the head of a city brat, that was synonymous for uncleanly sewer. He didn’t pick up her fidgeting back and forth, keeping a focus on her facial features. Ali hoped he wasn’t being rude in how he examined her so. At her explanation, his head perked and looked thoughtful. It made a bit of sense. When folks talked about sewer-people and how they resembled oceanic creatures due to radiation and all that, they could’ve just been talking about were people. One thing she did say struck a nerve. He reached out his hand and touched the place where he knee was to be.
You’re not ugly. Not even close. He wished her to be totally calm around him. Ali wasn’t discriminatory like the rest of humanity. When you befriended ghouls, vampires, and freakier things in your youth, you lost any sense of physical preference. Everyone had a heart and conscience, which was all that mattered truthfully. He could only think this because, after that, she went on a barrage of questions and fascinations. Humanity wasn’t all that sunshine and rainbows but she believed so. Her innocence was humbling and a bit concerning. But, Ali was game for a challenge and smiled to reciprocate her energy. It was the last thing she said that made him lose it…totally.
“It’s not plugged into anything, Bubbles!” He stood up on his little pillow and stretched his legs like a cheerleader or something. “Walking’s easy, but you can hover! I’d rather do that. Hair is weird, and I have no clue. I’d have to ask my brother. He breathed deeply and prepared to answer the rest in one quick go. Somehow he managed to remember everything.
“Bike. Car. Gas. Yes. And school’s were you learn! Some peeps think learning’s fun. My sibs do, you’d like them. He realized that he closed his eyes in his little answer spurt. He peeked to see his new dreamy friend probably looking at him like he was a nut. He didn’t know why but he felt like such a kid in this moment.
