EL BARRIO sites and landmarks |
East Harlem, also known as El Barrio and Spanish Harlem, is a predominately Hispanic neighborhood. Once known for being a haven for Italian immigrants and the founding location of the Genovese crime family, El Barrio now has the distinction of owning Manhattan's highest violent crime rate and the highest jobless rate in New York City. Despite this, East Harlem has a vibrant and strong community, where the memory is long and the walls have ears. People call out to one another on the street, drink coffee and talk politics outside storefronts, and there's music in the air. Green Sun - Tucked away on East 125th, this small shop is dusty and rundown even when compared to the empty parking lots and industrial buildings of the area, but they'll buy anything you're looking to sell, and they won't tell anyone where they got it from, either. If you don't know how to haggle, you're probably going to get ripped off though. Thomas Jefferson Park - While during the daytime this park is frequented by all sorts of sleepers, locals know not to venture out at night. Seelie Fae have been known to converge here, and quite a few omegas in the area take to the park on full moons to range in peace, while magi who require darkness or moonlight for their spell workings also drop in from time to time. There's even a small communal herb garden maintained by one circle in the north corner of the park. Our Lady of Grace - A church in the heart of East Harlem that was established fifty years ago by a watcher, it now functions as a training ground for exorcists and anti-demon magi. Most churches with a woken member in the city will report their parishioner's problems to the priests at Our Lady of Grace, who will send forth the appropriate team to deal with hauntings and torments inflicted upon the sleeping by rogue spirits. It should be noted, however, that the priests here are unaware of the existence of weres, fae, or vampires, and believe magi, sorcerers or mediums not affiliated with their church to be as dangerous as malevolent ghosts or fallen.
