Falcon squirmed in his seat.
His fingers were locked between each other, his eyes darting around the room; there had been strange things happening in class just a moment ago. He could've sworn there was something amiss between one of the girls and the wall -- the wall, for god's sake. It wasn't even something he could understand; not a toy, not an imaginary friend. Something. It was a Something.
Teeth ground against teeth. One of his teachers had placed him in the playroom while the rest of his classmates were shuffled off for a snack at the cafeteria to divert their attention.
And he thought he was the strange one for just a moment. The adults were stranger than he was, and he couldn't help but fidget nervously in his seat. This wasn't his first time, nor his second.
All he hoped for was for Tajvar to arrive soon, before whatever strange lady came to talk to him.

She always felt late to these things. It had taken time for her to not feel like an outsider when it came to visiting schools. To be honest, maybe the feeling had only come back because of this particular phone call. Once she was told over the phone that the child had "been bad again," alarm bells were going off.
One way or another, this probably wouldn't be good. It wasn't as though Eva had gotten into this job for the sake of maintaining mood lifters, but if she found out the kid had been told outright that they were bad, oh, she'd be doing what she could to set that straight right away. For now, however, she wasn't about to say anything to the person escorting her to the boy.
The thing was, labels were destructive. Part of the reason (and only a small part) armchair psychology was counterproductive was because of this, but the possible kiss of death that is being told an amateur (or, depending on the particular, right-on) diagnosis is different than a child being told they were bad. That didn't make it any less harmful to Eva.
And even if they hadn't, what if ... what if ... they rolled in her mind, compounded by the clack of heels on tiles.
She sees him, double checks to make sure this is indeed the right room, but her smile is already there. The secretary has already left her side. When she speaks, it is with gentleness she doesn't often afford those her own age. "Falcon?" It's a curious name, perhaps a nickname or a result of eccentric parents, but she's not about to hazard a guess. "My name is Eva. Do you know why I'm here?"

Falcon fidgeted in his seat rather nervously, not too happy that he was going to have to talk to a strange person. What if the Something happened to be in this room as well? He wasn't ready to face something like that, and he didn't want to believe that Somethings existed at all.
The boy stood up from his seat, and walked over to a toy shelf. He pulled some things from them, set them on the floor, but his interest was no longer captured by it. Falcon turned, intending to find something to occupy him while he waited, only to find the strange women he'd been dreading in the doorway.
Or was it a Something? One could never be sure.
"My name isn't really Falcon. It just means falcon." A soft sigh slipped from his mouth, and he turned so his back faced Eva. Had it not been for respect for the lady, he would have crossed his arms in displeasure. Instead, he chose to walk over to the window, as far away as he could be from her.
"You all ask the same question." He chewed his lip, finally shifting so he could look at Eva, and stared at her unflinchingly.
