Just stay here and go no-where else, said the note, and it was the only thing keeping Tajvar from walking away and getting something else - something productive - done. He sipped at his bubble tea somewhat calmly, his fingers itching to do something else other than tap away mindlessly at his phone.
His sister was busy making waves on instagram yet again, and a couple of his friends were raving about some Korean pop star's upcoming concert on ... on some social platform. He wasn't sure. The screen on his phone locked itself and the device went back into his coat pocket.
If it wasn't for the package he had to receive, he wouldn't be sitting here, thought Tajvar, somewhat bitter. He was a med student, he argued, and the decision was that he could study while waiting, if he wanted; if he did not, here was some money for bubble tea.

Varnock hefted the package into a better position as he walked towards the area that his customer had chosen to meet in. It was close enough to his shop to not be an issue, but it made him wonder why they hadn't just gone the extra mile to pick it up from the shop to save money. On the other hand he really couldn't care less. If they wanted to pay him a bit extra to get out and get some air, well he wasn't one to complain. Of course the place was a tad crowded, but what did that matter when one could ward a place and object to mask it from peoples eyes?
He picked out the client he was looking for and moved towards them with Ellen walking alongside him. He had wanted to leave her behind considering how short the trip would be anyways, but of course she would have none of that. Any chance to get out was good enough for her. He moved over to the table the man had chosen to occupy before taking a seat across from his customer.
"Good afternoon. I do believe you are the one I am delivering this package to?" Said package encountered the table with a solid thunk. The thing was heavier than it had any right to be and had to be managed slightly with carefully crafted wards.

Tajvar ran the ice-cold plastic cup over his hands, feeling the condensed water slick his palms just as a voice spoke up beside him. He turned to face Varnock, a small smile on his face as always. Meeting someone meant manners. Tajvar couldn't care less, but he had a reputation to keep up. He had to be fair, nice, if he could manage. (He always managed.)
"... Uh," he began, tilting his head, "I think so? Does it contain ... these?" He slipped another piece of paper across the table, slightly crumpled from having sat in his pocket alongside keys and various items for quite a while. "I'm just here to collect them. I don't ... I don't even know how it works."
It was a half-lie, but Tajvar had long since stopped caring.

Varnock lifted the piece of paper as Ellen jumped up onto the table to eye the man who was buying from them. He had what was on the list and a little extra as well. That wasn't exactly as he had planned, but well what does it matter? He already had told them the price for what he had packed into the box before he had left so either way he was getting paid for this.
"I have it all indeed. You have the money for it right? We agreed I would be paid here so as to include the price for delivery. As for how it works the buyer will know how to open the box. Nothing fancy really." And it wasn't either. Just a simple ward to keep the thing from being opened by the wrong people and opening the eyes of someone who didn't need their eyes opened.

"Yeah, don't worry about it."
A grin flashed across Tajvar's face as he took out an envelope from his inner pocket, and passed it to Varnock. It had enough money, as well as a tip in it. His father's money, of course -- the man was rich, though he lived completely unlike a rich man. There was more than enough to go around, though, due to how well his job paid. (Then again, things had been changing these days, and he was no longer sure what was what.)
"As expected," Tajvar commented upon hearing the details of the package. It was just like the man to have it sealed and inoperable even by his own son. "Thanks." He smiled, and took a drink of his bubble tea. "I think you'll be seeing more of me -- I'm like a delivery boy for him, haha. Tajvar."
An extended hand, the same grin from before, and a friendly expression.

He grabbed the envelope and slipped it into his coat. Or it appeared he did. The coat was a lovely cover for him bringing items into his mind. He didn't bother to count it until it was in his mind either. He more or less gave his customers the benefit of the doubt rather than doubting them from the start. A swift count within his mind showed it to be as they had agreed anyways.
He took the offered hand and shook it with a smile. "A pleasure Tajvar. I'm Varnock Acerbi, owner of the shop your father bought from. I look forward to a repeat customer though. I just don't have enough of them yet." He paused for a moment. "So you don't even know why your father ordered all this then?"

"My father is a secretive man," Tajvar replied, his facial expression unchanging. "I don't know what he's up to, but I don't feel a need to pry, either." He ended his statement with a chuckle, and finished his bubble tea. He crushed the plastic cup, but met the resistance of half-melted ice. He relaxed his grip on the cup, and reverted to shaping it back to its original form.
"I'm a medical student, Varnock. I don't think I need to dabble in ... these."

Varnock shook his head slightly. A medical student? He could do with magic in five minutes what would take hours for him to accomplish. He might not need to 'dabble' in them, but it would certainly help improve his ability to save people. "You would be surprised at what might help you and what might not Tajvar. What does a medical student entail these days anyways? I assume you go to Columbia University?"
Ellen had been staring at the man ever since he crushed the cup and began to reshape it. She had felt the mental twitch from Varnock as well when their hands connected. Must be some sort of ability he had then since he refused to meet his eyes after that as well. Still her gaze would be considered rude for a human and downright creepy for an animal.

"Yes, Columbia," Tajvar nodded. "I enjoy the job of a medical man -- a doctor, paramedic, it interests me. I don't think I'm cut out for magic." He laughed, more at the idea of himself using healing magic rather than the job itself. The man found himself strange at times; people relished the idea of instantaneous healing, but he would rather do it the old-fashioned way.
Perhaps it was his family, or his brother being more adept at magic than he is.
"For a top student, it's funny how he's not good with magical objects or spells."

"A good school, Columbia. I've studied there for a short time myself. Left after I found they couldn't teach me much more than I already knew about the subject in question." He seemed a good enough guy even if he preferred the more natural stuff over magic.
He raised an eyebrow at that. "A top student who isn't very good with magic? Depending on what needs to be learned I know some good tutors."
Post by tajvar fereydun on Dec 29, 2012 4:03:47 GMT -5
Ah, the knowledgeable. Perhaps what Tajvar lacked in the end was ambition. He certainly had no idea what he wanted to do other than medicine.
"I see. What did you study -- and no, I don't think I need tutors for magic. I'm happy to know what I already do, and if I need to know anything else, I'll figure it out on my own."
He might have lacked ambition, but he had adventure in him.

Varnock nodded once more. He had a good philosophy in learning things for himself at least. He would have a much more eventful life that way. "I studied history mostly. Dabbled on into astronomy and even a bit into various weaponry, but that was a shoot off of the history class. Strange teacher for that class though. Couldn't recognize his accent for the life of me."
He sent a message to Ellen to check a nearby wall clock for him to avoid appearing rude. "I'm not keeping you from anything important am I? I would hate to think my idle chatter made you late for something."

He knew the troubles of having a professor he could not understand. It was troublesome to have to ask questions after class, and to figure out the answers to the question was another lesson in itself. All in all, Tajvar was grateful for such teachers -- he could understand yet another odd accent, which were all too common in the world of demon and demon hunters.
"History is fascinating, but to pursue it academically is another thing altogether," admitted Tajvar, having no affinity for it at all. With medical science, it was slightly more interesting to play with human lives -- to save them, to watch them die from apathy or aid. "I understand enthusiasm for that, though." He smiled.
"... no, you're not. I'm not due to deliver this until later -- I'm being used as a safekeeper."

Varnock smiled and gave another shake of his head. "I was more in it for the books really. They have a nice library there and I learned much from it all. The classes were just a nice bonus on the side even if I didn't learn much during my time there during the classes."
He paused as a small lull was made in the conversation. He was running out of things to talk about and he really should be getting back to the shop sooner rather than later... "So as a medical student have you actually spent some time interned at a hospital?"
Post by tajvar fereydun on Dec 29, 2012 6:56:59 GMT -5
"You didn't know that non-students could access the archives?" Tajvar raised an eyebrow; he assumed it was common knowledge that the library opened its doors to any sort of learner, regardless of where they came from. Of course, charges were imposed, but they were hardly exorbitant in the face of tuition.
"... not yet, no. I'm not due until the semester after next. For an internship, I mean," he said, glancing aside as he pondered for a moment. He could always get an early internship and extend if he wanted, but he didn't feel like doing practical work outside labwork in class. "If possible I want to work in the emergency department, but since I'll be an intern ... probably going to get shafted all over the place. All the time, too."
