HARLEM sites and landmarks |
Harlem is traditionally about as safe as walking into a chainsaw, but in this modern day and age, it's generally alright to go out alone at night--ideally with a friend, and perhaps not too late at night. Historically an African-American community, it's still primarily non-White even despite rapid gentrification. A certain breed of voodoo specialists, shamans, and sorcerers live in Harlem, as well as many, many restless ghosts. Red Velvet - A bakery and a summer creamery, Red Velvet has a famous red velvet cake (duh) that's considered by locals to be the best in the city. It is run by a vampire that loves to bake. Bloodthirsty customers can request a special slice, and the red certainly won't come from food coloring. Quartet - Once a jazz club of great renown, Quartet is just another watering hole now--except it's regulars have been regulars for a few decades now. Some of them started claiming to be nephews or sons of the original, but the owner is superstitious enough to believe that he's got a crowd of immortals buying his food and drink. The owner is oblivious, but Quartet has a reputation as a great place to meet other wakers, and even the new customers are likely wakers. Marcus Garvey Park - A small park frequented by a tall, thin black man with a saxophone. He'll play for a small tip, but otherwise he's just... there. His secret is that he can find anyone. It's not an unusual talent in a magic-infused world, but he's good, and his dowsing seems to know no limits. Say anything, anything, give him a quarter or two, and he'll let you know where to look, no fuss, no delay.
