LOWER EAST SIDE sites and landmarks |
Lower East Side is traditionally a working class, immigrant neighborhood, and for the most part, it remains such. They've seen all sorts here, from Russian to Japanese to Hispanic, it's a mixed crowd. However, especially along its border with East Village, the Lower East Side is starting to see gentrification with trendy boutiques and upscale restaurants. Deities of all sorts have come here with the beliefs of their people, and the fae always enjoy the hopeful dreams of fresh immigrants. Shaari Rachmim - A house of healing, Shaari Rachmim employs people with healing powers or magi that specialize in healing spells. They provide the miracle cures that some people so desperately need, as well as exorcisms, blessings, and purges for those with supernatural afflictions. The sleeper Orthodox Jewish community is aware of the Shaari Rachmim, and they will go to them if the situation is dire. Oakley College for the Arts - Oakley College, located in a nondescript tenement house, doesn't exist to sleepers. They offer an excellent multi-lingual two-year program for those interested in studying magic and spellcraft. There's an evening class option for working adults, as well as an afternoon pseudo-daycare for waker children. Many sleepers that suddenly become wakers in adulthood register in Oakley's program. It's more expensive than being self-taught, but it's also much, much safer. Schapiro & Daughters - Mercenary vampire hunters by trade, the Schapiro family are wakers that are dedicated to their craft. When the old man Schapiro was finally murdered by a vampire, the family cried outrage and together swore to murder every vampire in town. Unfortunately for vampires of the Lower East Side, Schapiro had many daughters and grand-daughters, not to mention some grandsons, all of whom are out to put a stake in every single vampire's heart.
